Photography and Instagram for Makers

This is a two part class (morning and afternoon) taking place in the upstairs area in our new shop.

PLEASE NOTE:  Participants MUST be able to climb two flights of stairs.

Join us for a fun class on how to take beautiful photos of your latest projects with your smart phone.  We will explore what lighting is the best to show off your work and we will talk about composition and depth of field in order to make your photos pop.  We will also take photos during our time together so you will have photos to share on social media or to just show off to  your family and friends.

You will need:

Your smart phone

A finished piece of work

Paper and pen or pencil

Joye Ardyn Durham is an award winning photographer whose work has been published around the world.  She owned the Ginko Tree Gallery and Frame Shop in Black Mountain, NC for 23 years until 2017.  Joye also worked as photo editor for The Laurel of Asheville where her work is still being published in the monthly publication.  Her work can be seen online at or


2:00-4:00PM  Basics of Instagram and How to Post Your Photos

So you’ve heard about Instagram and maybe you have even created an account but you don’t know what to do with it?

You follow some knitwear designers, yarn dyers, yarn shops and wonder how do they post those great pictures and videos?

Now is the time to get your Instagram (IG) game on!

In this class you will learn how to:

Create a name:

  •  Choosing the perfect name for your
  •  Create a Bio (that’s all about you)!
  •  Profile picture (we can take one of you and get you all setup)!

Posting a picture:

  • How to post a picture or video
  • Setting up a picture
  • Adding a location

What you need to bring to class:

Smart phone with photos from Joye’s class or others you want to post.

Pen & paper

A $5.00 service charge will incur for class cancellations.

Cancellations within 48 hours of class are non-refundable.
